Christmas
Party 2011...The Lake Superior Steelhead Association
held it's annual Christmas Party at Grandma's Sports
Garden on December 3, 2011. Fun was had by all who
attended. It was also a great time to reflect on
the LSSA accomplishments of 2011 and to look forward to
projects for 2012 including Steelhead Mentoring and
stream improvement projects on the Knife River.
Planking
Party 2011...The Lake Superior Steelhead Association
held it's 23rd Annual Planking Party at the mouth of the
Knife River on June 25, 2011. Big thanks to the
Master Plankers, John Whaley and Paul Sandstrom and to
Sue Majewski for making the baked beans and potato
salad. The weather was great as the Steelheaders
enjoyed the best Lake Trout dinner of the year!
2011
Mentoring Project...The Lake Superior Steelhead
Association along with The Hartley Nature Center held a
Steelhead Mentoring Program for kids. The class
consisted of tens kids. There were two classroom
sessions in March to teach kids steelheading
fundamentals. In April there were two hands-on
on-river sessions, first at the Lester River, then at
the Knife River. A big thanks to LSSA
instructors/mentors Craig Wilson, Gary Siverson, Gordy
Davis, Kevin Bovee, Vic Stark, Stacie Whaley, Maria
Manion, Scott Thorpe, Scott Fifield, Jeff Somrock.
Thank you also to product/gear suppliers Russ Francisco,
Marine General Sports, who provided the LSSA with rods
and reels at a very reasonable cost and to Cabelas who
donated terminal tackle.
Spring
Banquet 2011...The Lake Superior Steelhead
Association held it's annual Spring Banquet on April 16,
2011 at Mr. D's in Duluth. It was a super evening.
A capacity crowd packed Mr. D's banquet facility and had
a delicious meal. The prize package was
outstanding as always. Everyone had an great time
as the North Shore Steelhead run was in full swing.

Party 2010...The Lake Superior Steelhead Association
held it's annual Christmas Party at Grandma's Sports
Garden on December 4, 2010. It was a great evening
with good food and conversations.
Lake Superior
Steelhead Association's Spring Banquet...The Lake
Superior Steelhead Association held it's annual Spring
Banquet on April 17th 2010 at Mr. D's in Duluth.
The food was tremendous, turnout was great and the prize
package was quite possibly the best ever!
Cabela's
Great Outdoor Days Spring Expo...The Lake Superior
Steelhead Association had a booth at the two day event
at Cabela's in Rogers, MN on March 6 & 7, 2010.
LSSA member Scott Thorpe presented Steelhead 101 seminar
on both days. Thanks much to LSSA members: Scott
Thorpe, Vic Stark, Scott Swanson for their efforts in
the event. Also, a big thanks to LSSA member Greg
Lonke, manager of Cabela's Fly Shop for making the
arrangements.

Party 2009...The Lake Superior Steelhead Association
held it's annual Christmas Party at Grandma's Sports
Garden on December 5, 2009. It was a superb
evening with great friendships renewed and excellent
food. And of course, a few tall fish tales told...

Recreational Outdoor Sports Program's Steelhead
Workshop...The Lake Superior Steelhead Association
presented a Steelhead Workshop on November 9, 2009.
With many in attendance, eager student anglers learned about Shorecasting
and River Fishing for
Steelhead and other North Shore species. Thanks to LSSA member Scott Kuiti
for presenting the program.
Planking
Party 2009... The Lake Superior Steelhead
Association's Annual Planking Party took place at the
mouth of the Knife River on Saturday June 27th.
Master Planker's John Whaley and Paul Sandstrom did
another wonderful job again this year cooking up some of
the best Lake Trout one would ever eat.
Complemented with Famous Dave's Baked Beans & Potato
Salad and many other fixings, the meal was just
outstanding. The weather cooperated greatly as
everyone enjoyed conversations. Thanks much LSSA
members: John Whaley and Paul Sandstrom for their
efforts!
Great Waters Fly Expo...The
Lake Superior Steelhead Association shared a booth with
the Brule River Sportsman's Club at the GW Fly Expo at
the Bloomington Sheraton March 6-8, 2009. It was a
great opportunity to talk everything steelheading for
attendees. Thanks much to LSSA members: Vic Stark,
Dave Bennett, Stan Flower, Maria Manion, Mark Haas and
Scott Thorpe for their efforts in this event!

Recreational Outdoor Sports Program's Steelhead
Workshop...The Lake Superior Steelhead Association
presented a Steelhead Workshop on March 11, 2009.
With 50+ in attendance, eager anglers learned about
Shorecasting, River Fishing and Fly Fishing for
Steelhead and other North Shore species. Thanks to
LSSA members Craig Wilson, Scott Kuiti, Tim Carroll and
Damien Wilmot for their presentations.
LSSA / Reef
Bar Steelhead Expo...The Lake Superior Steelhead
Association presented a Steelhead Expo at the Reef Bar &
Lounge on March 21, 2009. New and experience
steelhead anglers gathered for an afternoon of learning
and story telling. A big thanks LSSA members: Gary
Siverson, Kevin Bovee, Tim Carroll, Craig Wilson, Steve
Majewski, Vic Stark, Scott Kuiti & Marine General for
their participation.
